MoDOT Director To Address Chamber on Future Road Plans

Meiying Wu/KBIA

Patrick McKenna, the director of the Missouri Department of Transportation, will talk with members of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce on Thursday about plans for road maintenance in mid-Missouri and the rest of the state.

The talk is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chamber's offices in the Walton Building, 300 S. Providence Road.

The talk comes after the failure of Proposition D on the November ballet. Proposition D was a proposed 10-cent increase in Missouri’s per-gallon motor fuel tax, which if passed would have generated about $412 million annually for the State Road Fund and local governments, according to the ballot language. The tax increase would have been phased in over four years.

The fund would have freed up money now budgeted for the Missouri State Highway Patrol to be used for road maintenance, bridge rehabilitation and for highway projects aimed at relieving congested traffic for freight across the state.
